A podcast for every mood

Hello lovelies! I hope you’re well and had a lovely weekend. If you’re anything like me dragging yourself out of bed on Monday is one of the weeks most difficult tasks. Now I’ve shared my tips on how I make mornings bearable but sometimes you need an extra boost. I love podcasts in fact if you see me with headphones in I’m ten times more likely to listening to them instead of music. So I thought I’d share my favourites depending on my mood.

For when you need a giggle…

Do the Right Thing, DTRT, is utterly hilarious and bizarre. We all struggle to make decisions from time to time and this podcast poses the strangest of these. From how to deal with angry customers to surviving a nuclear fallout; all from a comedy perspective. There’s usually a sizeable gap between series but it’s definitely worth the wait, sort of like the wait for your favourite tv show. DTRT is usually around the 45 minute mark so doesn’t take too much time out of your day. It’s a great burst of surreal comedic answer to some of life’s most difficult questions.

For when you’re feeling sinister…

Oh my word, My Favourite Murder is amazing! Sometimes you just want to chill out and indulge your darker side. Karen and Georgia are like you’re best friends within the first episode. Yes they each talk about their favourite murder which may seem a little dark; but let me explain they do it in the same way you watch a horror film or murder mystery. They’re not the most factually accurate but boy are they funny. I hate anything too scary but these ladies are so humorous that even a wimp like me can enjoy. My Favourite Murder is on the longer side at 1 1/2 hours but I adore every minute. It’s great for your commute or even whilst you’re busy working.

For when you want to learn and still have fun…

No Such Thing As A Fish is made my the boffins behind Qi, which has always been one of my favourite tv shows. Each of the four brainiacs presents their favourite fact this week which means you get a mix of different subjects. The part that makes it funny is the dynamic between: Dan, Alex, Anna and James. Dan usually presents the more questionable facts and it’s great to hear the others challenge him. It’s short and sweet at around 30 minutes meaning it’s a great weekend treat.

For when you need to chill out…

Myths and Ledgends is my go to podcast when I need to calm down before bed. It consists of one main story and one short little tale. The aim is to present the truest to the original tale, this means de-Disneyfying popular stories. However sometimes he tells myths you’ve never heard which is just as exciting.  Myths and Legends is a bit of an odd one as it can range from 30 minutes to just over an hour. It’s great like a grown up bed time story.

For when you want to learn…

There are so many podcasts I could of chosen here from Stuff You Should Know, Stuff Mom Never Told You, to Freakanomics. They’re all brilliant from covering simple things to feminist issues or the stranger side of economics however I had to pick a different podcast.

I chose The Cracked Podcast, because it covers literally everything from a range of perspective. Some weeks it’s offbeat subjects like the best fictional schools equally they could be covering marketing psychology. I like the spread of subjects even if this means an vastly varying podcast length. I will also put this on for long journeys as they make that time feel productive.

For when you need to feel better about your life…

My Dad Wrote a Porno is as cringeworthy and hilarious as it sounds. Jamie’s dad had written a series of erotic literature, and for some unknown reason he has decided to deal with this by recording himself reading it with his two friends Alice and James. Obviously it’s ruder than podcasts but that’s almost negated by the author’s lack of knowledge of basic female anatomy. It’s usually around 30 minutes long and I usually end up crying from laughter about 5 minutes in. If you can handle the awkwardness this podcast is well worth a listen.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this little exploration into my listening habits. I know it’s a little different than my usual posts but I hope this will help you get to know me a little better!
